TET stands for Teacher Eligibility Test. This is an examination conducted for individuals who seek to become teacher in India. Basically, TET is the basic qualification required at the time of joining the school as a teacher but only for classes 1 to 8. The test is necessary for appointment in Indian government schools. Teacher Eligibility Test is not only the responsibility of the central government but the state government holds certain responsibilities too. TET is conducted on both levels: central and state.

This came into effect in 2011 when the Indian government was stepping towards the development of education in the country and aimed at improving teaching standards. The government has made sure that this test meets the requirements of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, of 2009 and fulfills its objectives.

Apart from the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), there are several TETs that are being conducted by the state governing bodies at regular intervals. It includes UPTET (Uttar Pradesh), HTET (Haryana), PSTET (Punjab), WBTET (West Bengal), and many others.

WBTET i.e. West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education. This body looks after the state and standards of primary education in West Bengal.
