Teacher Eligibility Test is not only the responsibility of the central government but the state government holds certain responsibilities too. TET is conducted on both levels: central and state.

This came into effect in 2011 when the Indian government was stepping towards the development of education in the country and aimed at improving teaching standards. The government has made sure that this test meets the requirements of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, of 2009 and fulfills its objectives.
