Sherlock Holmes is a famous fictional detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who first appeared in “A Study in Scarlet” in 1887. His right-hand man, Dr. John Watson, always accompanies Holmes, and they live together at 221B Baker Street. Holmes and Watson have gained immense popularity over the years, and their characters have been incorporated into several movies, short films, web series, comics, etc. One of the best-known portrayals of the detective was seen in the movie “Sherlock Holmes” where Robert Downey Jr. was cast as the main lead.
This 2009 film was directed by Guy Ritchie, written by Lionel Wigram and Michael Robert Johnson, and produced by Silver Pictures, Wigram Productions, and Village Roadshow Pictures. Downey’s wife has, however, confirmed that Sherlock Holmes 3 is much-awaited, and Downey himself has attested to it. He wishes for the third installment of the movie series to be the biggest hit and is thus taking his own time to make the project perfect. As of now, the Sherlock Holmes 3 release date is unknown. Sherlock Holmes 3 Story
The first movie focuses on Lord Henry Blackwood, the illegitimate son of Lord Chief Justice Sir Thomas Rotheram, and his magical, ritualistic, and ceremonial practices, who came back from his death. Blackwood planned to take control of the British and kill all members of Parliament except his men.
Meanwhile, Irene Adler, a former rival of Holmes, hires him to find Luke Reordan. Reordan is found in Blackwood’s coffin instead of Blackwood, and this causes a secret society named The Temple of the Four Orders, comprising Blackwood’s father and other influential political figures, to seek Holmes’ help. The movie was a race against the clock for Holmes, Watson, and Adler to stop the notorious Blackwood. The end of “Sherlock Holmes” introduces Professor Moriarty as the man instructing Adler.
The second movie has Professor James Moriarty as Holmes’ biggest adversary. The movie starts with Moriarty seemingly killing Irene Adler, Holmes’ present love interest. After John and Mary’s wedding, Holmes vows to defeat Moriarty, who vows to kill John and Mary because of the detective’s interference. However, the attempt on the couple goes in vain, and slowly the professor’s plan comes to light. He wanted to instigate a world war while profiting from it.
When an injured Holmes and the evil Moriarty face off at the peace summit in Switzerland, Holmes grabs him, and both of them fall to their deaths. However, the end of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” shows that the detective is still alive and well and also hints at another movie. The plot of Sherlock Holmes 3 can be about one of his famous cases, like The Hounds of Baskerville, but that remains to be seen.

Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2 cast a few of the same actors for both films. Everyone’s favorite Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr., played Sherlock Holmes to perfection and was also awarded the Golden Globe Award for “Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy”. Jude Law as Dr. John Watson and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler added to the charm of the movies.
Supporting actors like Eddie Marson as Inspector Lestrade, Geraldine James as Mrs. Hudson, Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan, and William Houston as Constable Clark deserve much praise for their portrayals of their characters. Sherlock Holmes 1 had Mark Strong as Lord Henry Blackwood, the antagonist, and Sherlock Holmes 2 had Jared Harris as Professor James Moriarty, Sherlock’s most famous rival. The second part also introduced Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock’s brother. Sherlock Holmes 3 will probably see Downey, Law, McAdams, and the other supporting cast reprising their previous roles.
