Why Is There No Season 5 of Ozark coming?
The Ozark show producer Chris Mundy explained during the promotion of the fourth and final season that we did not want to repeat ourselves, we did not want the series to continue only because it was a television series and it had to continue. The doubt was always between whether there would be four seasons or five seasons and then Netflix came up with the idea we will do four but we will make it longer and split it into two parts.
Thus, there was no risk of stretching such a juggling game more than necessary. It has been adding so many new clubs to its narrative juggling every time that there could come a time when it lost its balance and everything fell apart.
It is a formula to monetize the series as if it had five seasons but only produced four. In addition, Mundy did not have enough with a season of only ten episodes to successfully close the series. As soon as Mundy and his team sat down to write Season 4 of the series, they realized that 10 episodes will not going to be enough to wrap up the story, they needed more space. In the end, it was 14. When Netflix approached them with the extended Season 4, they realized that they could sell their finale in two packages of 7 episodes each. And it could seem like two independent products. That is why the second part of Season 4 has a lot of a Season 5 feel even though there is no fifth season.
