Fruits Basket All The Seasons Overview

Fruits Basket All The Seasons Overview

Fruits Basket is a cute romance and supernatural drama series.

The first season is the base of the series, introducing each character and setting them up for something darker.

The story revolves around an orphan girl, Tohru Honda who is a cheerful high school girl and used to live with her grandfather after the death of her mother.

She moves out of her grandfather’s house when her relatives started behaving horribly to her. She started living in a tent but that also got destroyed due to a landslide.

Tohru’s classmate Yuki Sohma and his cousin Shigure took her to the Sohma household. Tohru by mistake discovers the Sohma’s family member’s secret.

Sohma House consists of thirteen members and they all are cursed: among which twelve members are possessed by a spirit of an animal according to the Chinese Zodiac cycle.

The last member of the family Kyo is possessed by the spirit of a cat which is not a part of the Chinese Zodiac cycle. This resulted in Kyo being treated as an outcast.

All the members feared Akito who is the head of the family and also possessed the spirit of an animal that ranks high in the Chinese Zodiac cycle.

They turned into their spirit animal when they feel overwhelming emotions like happiness, sadness, anger, or a hug from the opposite gender.

In this season, Tohru found a sense of connection with the members especially with Yuki and Kyo. She finally has a place where she can live even though among these fruits she is an onigiri.

All the members have their own skeleton in the closet and Tohru has her own dark thoughts, making them relatively found a common ground where they can relate with each other.

The second season is more serious and darker compared to the first season. In this season there is more space for character development.

Tohru, Kyo, and Yuki are in their senior year of high school. The trio are in stress while thinking about their future.

We get to see more of Yuki’s story and Tohru gets to know the ultimate plan of Akito of keeping every member close to him.

Akito plans to keep Kyo in isolation as he is an outcast, this makes Tohru determined to find the cure of the curse.

In this season we also see Kyo’s feelings for Tohru and Akito’s secret that he is a girl. Akito’s friend Kureno Sohma, who was able to break the curse, still lives with her.

Even though nothing ties him with her.

Season 3 ended with Akito realizing how toxic her bond is with other members.

We can’t blame her as Akito who is a female was abused by her mother when she was young. So she expresses her love for how she was taught.

Akito is also the head of the Chinese Zodiac cycle and the head is typically a man. This made Akito keep her identity secret and was determined to keep every member together forever.

Tohru kindness changes something in Akito and Akito chooses to break the bond which has trapped the members for ages.
